Gallery: Yuri The Axe

Finally finished and ready to join the Butcher of Khardov in the dance of destruction; Yuri the Axe. I opted to use multiple shades of grey for the furs, which is more in-line with the art work, whilst choosing a much darker shade for the Axe head. I am satisfied with the weathering applied to the golds and steel. The whole paint job took a long time to complete simply because I spent too much time thinking when I should of been painting.

The shading applied to the clothing is something I am much happier with, previous works lacked the stark contrast necessary to enhance the details of the figure, but after much practice I remember now some of the basic applications of light and shadows.

I decided to have a little play with weathering although I think the pictures are a little bleached out, there are traces of rust on the axe head and oxidation on the gold.

I am really happy with the base, the studs are not only functional for arc marking but also look pretty good. These are 1.5mm ball bearings slotted into the base directly. I did consider painting them as jewels but constant game play would probably mean lots of excessive wear.

I am very happy with the face, I added stubble with built up grey glaze. He does have eyes but these are blocked off in the photos by the teeth of his bear hood!

With Yuri ready to lead the Manhunter corps, my vision of recreating the Butcher of Khardov's armies becomes more of a reality. I also feel that I am finally getting back to form with my painting and am in a position to start taking my standards up a notch.

Warmachine: Khador Manhunter Alt Version

Second Manhunter in my collection and a worthy companion for the original Manhunter. This figure was fun to paint and I decided to use a different palette for the skin, for  darker look. I decided to give very dark/natural colours for both the lips and eye shadow, I just could not imagine Khador's greatest survival hunters running around with fully made up faces!

I had a lot of fun painting this figure and I am more happy that I have put out two for two. Lets see what week 3 of this project brings to the painting table.

Warmachine: Khador Kodiak 2010 repaint

The first NMM Warjack of the year. I am quite happy with the way this one came out as it gives me a bench mark for future Nmm work. I am working on the second Kodiak this week, in between various solos (such as the Manhunter). I decided to pay more attention to the base works by adding scenic snow and leaf litter to the original resin base I picked up in 2004

I have included a piccture of my 2005 Kodiak for comparison.

I am still working on my photography, which is proving to be a uphill struggle...completely different from photographing the much larger Anime figures I collect. Again all part of the process.

Warmachine: Grey Lord Ternion 2010 Repaint

Not quite new but part of the 2010 repaints I intended for Warmachine MKII. The Grey Lord Ternion were great models to paint and a good set of figures for me to re-learn some of what I have lost over the last 6 years out of painting. The overall quality is a little better than my old work but there are visible areas where I have lost my edge such as skin. It is nice getting so much practice with NMM, the reoccurring theme for 2010's Khador repaints.
